David actually received death threats on twitter from Call Of Duty fans, stating he and his family would be murdered (because of the changes he made)
Follow the details of the story here at your own leisure... In the mean time, let me humor you... Just last month a kid got arrested and imprisoned for making jokingly sarcastic threats on Facebook about a video game. That situation was obviously messed up, kid made an honest mistake (I deduce this seeing how his comments were read out of context and followed by "lol" and "jk")...but we see the severity of that mistake and where it landed him...
But This???
To communicate directly to (David) stating you want to harm him and his family because your imaginary weapons don't pack that "umph!" you need to protect our homeland from the comfort of your moms living room couch??? Or let me do you one better...to make death threats to David and his family because he was doing his job??? Whether you were joking or not, that was/is wrong. As a gamer, if you know anything then you know that the American community holds within it a core group of people who believe video games are bad and that they cause violence... Now obviously I disagree with this notion. I'm a grown, responsible adult, who can distinguish the difference between fantasy and reality. In fact, I grew up playing video games of all kinds. I turned out to be a man of many pastimes with a strong passion for technology. I'm not tooting my own horn, but I turned out just like any other normal person. And guess what??? There ARE other gamers out there who are mature who, like me, get grouped in with immature, whiny, bratty, impulsive, unstable, irresponsible PEOPLE, that also happen to be gamers... Unfortunately, When ignorant things like this happen, it only makes it harder for mature gamers to play without being condemned for various societal collapses. I am uniformed on which fans issued these death threats, but that kind of conduct is never acceptable and as a gamer I am truly ashamed that there are people out there that would let these (very trivial and basic) update patches disturb them to the point of threatening another life. Let alone a whole family. And in a super media sensitive society where everything you say can be used against you, it just isn't a very intelligent thing to joke about either. Period. So to all the gamers out there who play responsibly, you need to speak up. Too many times, the ideal of video games receive negative connotations. But when you (the responsible ones) sit back and say nothing, nothing changes...
Your voice is a powerful tool of change, or did you not see how quickly Microsoft made history back tracking on all their momentum-ending restrictions? They back tracked because we the community spoke up! (Still too early to say if they back tracked in time...another story for another time...)
In closing I'll just say this. This event pressed on my heart and while this is just one blog on one site from one guy. I see a collection of voices calling to attention the need for in house accountability after this latest exercise of carelessness... Nobody is perfect so I don't speak from some lofty platform of self righteousness, but to the unassuming gamers lacking intelligence, do better. Use common sense people.
With all the great games, tech, and potential for fun why throw it all away over some half thought out prison prone tweet?
That question was rhetorical of course....peace
